Faith Aflame:  360
This Sunday / Monday in worship we begin our annual emphasis on Stewardship.  "Faith Aflame:  360" is the theme to propel us forward in our understanding and application, by God's grace, of all the gifts He has given us.  There are a couple of highlights about this.  First, as in previous years, we will have various lay speakers to share their perspective on God's working in their lives.  Second, and this is new to this year, each week there will be a set of discussion questions for you to talk over as a family or with your friends.  You can find these questions either coupled with the message notes in the worship folder or you can find them online on the church's website.  I also invite you to post your thoughts and reflections from these questions on the "Stewardship Blog" on the website.  You can access it by clicking here.  (Or you can also access it from the home page of the website:  www.sblchurch.org)  Check back with the blog to see how others are responding to God's prompting through the questions.  Share some neat stories to inspire others, or ask further questions!

Reformation Sunday
We also celebrate the Reformation this Sunday.  In seven short years we will be at the 500th anniversary of Luther's posting the 95 Theses on the Wittenberg Church door for discussion.  As passionate as I am about being a Lutheran Christian, I'm always reminiscent of how the religious leaders in the days of Jesus' earthly ministry were all too ready to trust in their heritage than the truth of God's Word in His Son.  Martin Luther never wanted the moniker "Lutheran" but it has stuck for those who view Scripture and the message of the Gospel in the same manner he did.  We do well to follow only the Savior Jesus Christ, as Luther did, and not put our trust in anyone except Christ and Christ alone!  By the way, we'll enjoy singing "A Mighty Fortress" at the 7:30 and 8:45 worship services Sunday....and also Monday night!

A New Old Glory at SBL
While you happen to be on the church's website you can also check out a picture of the new flag pole (and new flag) flying at SBL.  Thank you to those who donated it!  I believe the flag is 8 feet by 6 feet.

Trivia
Last week I was afraid I was reusing a trivia question, but no one came in with the right answer (of course, some of you might have thought I was crazy for asking the same question a second time!).  The question was to name the only two miracles of Jesus that are mentioned in all four Gospels.  The two miracles are the feeding of the 5,000 AND Jesus' resurrection.  Kudos for those who did try and did get the first one named...  For this week we'll stay with Abraham.  After his wife Sarah died, what was the name of his next wife?

God bless you in the power and love of Jesus Christ....and I'll see you in His house this Sunday/Monday!'

In Him,
